Full figured women are faced with the struggles of conforming to social standards on a constant basis. Sadly the idea of what "attractive" looks like has historically been determined by the shallow minds of our fashion industry. Moreover, with the media driven society of today, the pressure to fit into a certain size is just about unbearable. Until now, today's women are living curvy lifestyles displaying their voluptuousness all over life's runway with an air of confidence and beauty. CURVENTION is dedicated to celebrating that confidence and encouraging woman to love the skin they're in!

 

It all started with a conversation between famed poets and UGT members, K. Mojavi Wright and Jamaal St. John regarding their love for Big Beautiful Women. Our Creative Director Laquisha "Q Diamond" Rucker & Production & Media Coordinator Samantha "Ms. Bliss" Pittman took the essence of the conversation and brought it to life, successfully designing a phenomenal show known as "THICKNESS APPRECIATION'. This show skyrocketed to what's now known as CURVENTION.

 

Our body positive movement was born and exploded--from a hotel conference room to standing room only our second year to a 400 seat venue the following year. In our 3rd and 4th years we have transitioned to the Capital districts Kitty Carlisle Theatre at the EGG. CURVENTION is structured to take audience members on a fulfilling ride of fashion segments, poetry, music, performances, comedy, audience participation contests and much, much more! This event is one of its kind in the 518 area but is looking to expand at long last!
